Frequently Asked Questions

Bolontiku Hotel is located in the heart of the Mayan world, on the shores of Lake Petén Itzá, Guatemala. Most guests arrive via Mundo Maya International Airport (FRS), just a 20-minute drive from the lake. From there, we will take you by boat to the hotel, a serene 15-minute ride across the water.

If you’re driving, secure parking is available at the hotel. Please contact us prior to your arrival for detailed directions.

For more detailed travel options, including flights and transfers, visit our How to Get Here page or contact us directly to help plan your journey.

Visa requirements depend on your nationality. Citizens from many countries, including the U.S., Canada, and most European nations, do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. However, a valid passport with at least six months of validity is required. We recommend checking with your local Guatemalan consulate or embassy for specific entry requirements.

The Petén region has a tropical climate, with warm temperatures year-round ranging from 24°C to 34°C (75°F to 93°F). The dry season runs from November to April, offering plenty of sunshine, while the green season from May to October brings occasional rain that enhances the lush surroundings.

Pack lightweight, breathable clothing for warm weather, along with comfortable walking shoes for exploring the surrounding nature and Mayan ruins. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are a must for sunny days, while insect repellent is helpful for evenings. Don’t forget your swimsuit to enjoy our pool or take a dip in Lake Petén Itzá!

Bolontiku Hotel is your launch-point to adventure and relaxation! Visit nearby Mayan ruins such as Tikal, Yaxhá, or El Mirador for a glimpse into ancient history. Explore the lake by kayak or boat. For a more relaxed day, enjoy spa treatments, or simply lounge by the pool and take in the breathtaking lake views.

Bolontiku is a sanctuary of quiet luxury designed for the discerning traveler who seeks to disappear into the landscape rather than merely visit it. As a member of the Cayuga Collection, a Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) member and mentioned in the Michelin Hotel Guide, we offer an intimate, 15-suite environment that stands in stark contrast to the region’s larger resorts.

While other properties focus on scale, we prioritize low-density exclusivity, where the lakefront architecture serves as a modern bridge to deep Mayan heritage. It is the sophisticated choice for those who value privacy and a profound sense of place.

Bolontiku Hotel is not an all-inclusive hotel. Room rates include a complimentary à la carte breakfast, but should guests stay in for lunch, dinner, or drinks, all food and beverages consumed will be charged at checkout. Our on-site restaurant serves a wide variety of à la carte options featuring local and international cuisine. For a more personalized stay, we can arrange meal packages or customized dining experiences upon request.

While we welcome guests of all ages, Bolontiku Hotel is designed for those seeking peace, relaxation, and a deep connection with nature. Families are welcome to stay, but please note that our serene environment may be better suited for older children and adults.

Absolutely! Bolontiku Hotel is an ideal destination for couples looking for a serene and romantic escape. With stunning lake views, private accommodations, and intimate experiences, it’s perfect for honeymoons or special anniversaries.

Unfortunately, pets are not allowed to ensure the comfort of all our guests and to protect the natural surroundings.

We recommend booking at least 2 to 3 months in advance, especially during the high season (November to April) or holiday periods, as our rooms are in high demand.

We recommend staying 3 to 4 nights to fully experience the wonders of Petén. This allows enough time to explore the Mayan ruins, enjoy the lake, and relax at the hotel. Many guests extend their stay to fully unwind in our tranquil paradise.

We operate under the philosophy of “Luxury Rewilded,” where rigorous ecological stewardship meets refined comfort. As part of the SLH Considerate Collection, Bolontiku is built with organic materials and stone that naturally blend with the Petén canopy.

Guests do not sacrifice modern comforts for sustainability; our suites feature lake-view jacuzzis, rainfall showers, and high-speed fiber-optic Wi-Fi, all while maintaining a carbon-neutral footprint. Your stay directly supports the preservation of Lake Petén Itzá and the local San Andres community.

Beyond traditional relaxation, we offer a deep connection to Mayan spiritual resonance. Our on-site private Temazcal lodge hosts authentic ancestral purification ceremonies guided by local practitioners. This is not a standard spa treatment but a profound ritual of rebirth and reflection, set against the quiet ripples of the lake.

Combined with our locally-sourced, slow-food gastronomy, Bolontiku provides a holistic wellness circuit that honors the nine deities of the underworld (Bolontiku) for which we are named.
